About Us

Our purpose is to record, reflect and connect with the lived experience of the New Zealand soldier.

We are a New Zealand museum that showcases our nation’s military history – telling the stories of the service and sacrifice of our Kiwi soldiers and exploring our participation in major conflicts worldwide. Visitors will learn how this has helped shape our identity as a country and our place in the world.

The Museum also serves as a memorial to all those men and women who have died in the active service of this country.

The National Army Museum Te Mata Toa is a Registered Charitable Trust governed by a Trust Board. To see a current list of our Trust Board Members, click here.

Most civilian staff are employed by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZ Army), with the exception of the commercial functions.
