Our 28th Māori Battalion programme is suitable for year levels 4-13.
Ake Ake Kia Kaha E! Forever Brave! is our permanent exhibition dedicated to the men of the 28th Māori Battalion and commemorating their great courage and sacrifice. Te Rau Aroha stands proud and provides a tangible link for all their mokopuna.
Ākonga will explore the history and significance of the 28th Māori Battalion, building an understanding of how this unit contributed to shaping the military identity of Aotearoa and the modern New Zealand Army Ngāti Tūmatauenga.
To support your learning in the classroom, for Secondary School teachers and educators we have a collection of Primary Source excerpts collected from our Kippenberger Military Archive from WWII NZ soldiers’ diaries. We recommend you start with A Brief History of the Māori Battalion before moving on to more specific topics.
