Our New Zealand Wars programme is suitable for year levels 7-13.
Students will explore the reasons behind various battles fought between British Imperial soldiers, New Zealand colonial forces, and Māori during the period 1845 – 1880. This period of New Zealand’s history features a range of extraordinary characters that offers insight into New Zealand culture and identity. It is inquiry based to encourage students to think critically about the exercise of power and its impacts, and to identify local sites of historical significance.
