Medal Repository

The Medal Repository is a purpose built display facility for The National Army Museum Te Mata Toa’s extensive medal collection. Opened in 2012, this is a nationally significant collection with the majority of medals being donated by families.

With medal groups representing nearly 2500 individuals, both servicemen and servicewomen, the repository strikes a balance between the need for these medals to be preserved and the need for them to be accessible to the recipients’ families.

In the Valour Alcove, you can view the Victoria Cross groups including the medals of double VC recipient, Charles Upham. In the main part of the repository we have medals from the New Zealand Wars, South Africa, World War One, World War Two and more recent conflicts.
